1960 saw the arrival of Yamaha's first moped, the MF-1. It was to form the basis of the successor to the Mate. The moped had monoshock suspension, which would appear on Yamaha motorcycles 15 years later, and was available with electric start. 1960 was also the year of Yamaha's first scooter, the SC-1. The model had a torque converter and was twin-charged.
1969 Yamaha came up with the FS1 model. The FS1 was available in nine different models: FS1, FS1-DX (front disc brake) and an FS1 Yankee. The Yamaha FS1 was available as a model until 1994.
In 1985 came the Yamaha DT50mx, in response to Honda's MT5. It came in several different models during the period 1985–1992.
1993 Yamaha came up with a brand new model – DT50R. The R stood for racing. The DT50R had a completely new frame and was delivered with a basket. The moped became more and more like a cross motorcycle. That model was sold from 1992 to 1996. Then came another model of the DT50R. This new model had a new water-cooled engine from the manufacturer Minarelli. The model was sold in 1996 and 2003.
2004 Yamaha came out with what would become one of Europe's most popular mopeds (in two variants) – the Yamaha DT50-r and Yamaha DT50-x. The model is still sold today, but nowadays there are many competitors, such as Derbi, Rieju, Beta, Gilera, Aprilia and Honda.
