PUCH MOPEDS AND BICYCLES

Popular moped models like Dakota, Montana<Montana, Florida, Alabama and Maxi were among the most popular mopeds in Sweden during the 1960s and 1970s. In 1987, Puch ceased all production of bicycles and mopeds. In 2005, Puch was relaunched as a bicycle brand by Cycleurope.

PUCH MODELS

• Alabama was a scooter model and had the same fan-cooled engine as most other Puch mopeds. Various colour schemes appeared over the years.
• The Arizonais reminiscent of the Dakota 3000, Nevada, Montana and Monza. However, it hashydraulicdisc brake front. It was not at all popular and very expensive.

• The Puch Dakota was a standard model similar to a motorbike but with the difference that the engine, compared to most other mopeds, was fan-cooled. The Dakota was delivered in British racing green (first year only) in 1966, red in 1967-1970, gold in 1972-1975 and also in the classic blue colour called Dino blue in 1970-1982, after which production ceased. Another model, called the Dakota 3000, was built from 1975 to 1977. However, this one had a completely different, more modern design (the same as the M50, Monza, Monza 3C and Arizona). What distinguishes it from the others is above all the fan-cooled engine taken from the regular Dakota.

• Mexico or Puch DS 50 VN was produced in 1968-1975, but was sold in Sweden only in 1968-1969. The model was four-speed, had a fan-cooled 1 hp engine, long seat (so-called limpa), fully enclosed chain guard, chromed roll bar and relatively small wheels. The model was very similar to the oldest Alabama model, but with a tank from Dakota. In Sweden, it was only sold in one colour scheme, namely off-white and orange. In Germany it was also available in red and white. A total of 1 300 units were sold in Sweden. The Lund companies, which imported Puch to Sweden, chose the model name Mexico because Olympics in Mexico City 1968.

• Nevada is one of the last models from Puch. The model came in the late 1970s and was discontinued in the early 1980s as Puch's well-known fan-cooled v3 engine went into the grave with the Dakota.
• Racing was one of the most expensive Puchs you could buy. It was made in few copies. The large brake drums and low saddle gave it away as a motorbike and it was very heavy compared to other Puchas, over 80 kg, and therefore became known as very slow. Some examples had twin exhaust pipes and could be converted to light motorcycle to 3.5 hp.

• MS50 was the first Puch to be imported to Sweden. In 1955, 300 copies were imported from Graz in Austria. It had a piston pin of 10 mm and the engine gave out 0.8 hp. The engine was a fan-cooled 2-speed manual gearbox with pedal start. The tank held 3.5 litres and the moped weighed about 45 kg with a full tank. The difference between the MS50 and the Florida is that the Florida has a different rear light, a so-called "hellalyse", chromed screen, larger and chromed tank, slightly modified handlebars and a chromed parcel holder and half hub brakes. The Floridan has a V3 engine. The light switch on the MS50 was inbakelite and is today a very difficult part to find. It was most likely the Stefa ignition system on it, which was later changed to Bosch.</li

• Texas is a "stealth model" of the Puch Dakota. They saved on thechrome so that the moped was much cheaper. The only difference is the decals and the fact that the tank and front fender are zinc-coloured on the Puch Texas.
• Magnum is a minicross aimed at young children. It is durable and has an E50 automatic engine with a centrifugal clutch, the same as on the Puch Maxi. It came out with 1 hp. But you could also buy a 3.5 hp kit for the Magnum. The top speed was then about 50 km/h and very strong.
• Packi is Puch's flakmoped which has a 3-speed fan-cooled engine with hand gear. The model was not very popular.
