ILO television engines
ILO-Motorenwerke was a major manufacturer of two-stroke engines in Germany, between 1911 and 1990. Founded by Heinrich Christiansen, the company focused primarily on the production of two-stroke engines for various vehicles, although it also produced motorcycles between 1923 and 1925.The company was acquired in 1959 by Rockwell International, which then also began to manufacture snowmobiles, alongside its other manufacturing activities. In 1977, the company was sold to Tecumseh Products, which continued to expand its production range with engines for lawn mowers, compressors and agricultural equipment. The company's business declined further in the late 1980s and the factory closed in 1990.
The name ILO comes from the constructed language Esperanto and means "tool". The logo, which was also applied to the engines, had a stylised form of a handwritten I, which has meant that the engines are sometimes also spelled JLO in other contexts.
ILO in Sweden includes above all the famous Piano engine. It is available in several models and uses a timing belt instead of a chain. Previous moped engine models have been, among other things, the enclosed FP-50 engine that was manufactured for several different Monark mopeds.
